On the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver Jr. (Kevin Costner) has the opportunity to rebuild his team when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in pursuit of perfection as the lines between his personal and professional life become blurred on a life changing day for a few hundred young men with dreams of playing in the NFL. Directed by Ivan Reitman, Draft Day also stars Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary and Ellen Burstyn.

Jennifer how many women are behind the sports scene that we never see?
Jennifer Garner: My character is a woman in a man’s world and she does it seamlessly. I had the privilege of shadowing Megan Rogers who is the capoligist at the Cleveland Browns. I just basically stoled everything from her from what she carried in her arms to the way she dressed. Megan is someone who never needs to show you she knows everything she just holds it inside and if necessary will bring out the hammer. It’s great that these women can keep their emotions in check and their brains can do so many things at once. You just have to have so much going on in your mind and lets just face it we’re good at that.

Apr 10, 2014 · · Articles · Comments Off on Jennifer Garner scores with lucky ‘Day’

Jennifer Garner follows her turn in the Oscar-winning “Dallas Buyers Club” to star opposite Kevin Costner in “Draft Day” — and even she seems surprised by such good fortune.

“I don’t work that much. With my kids as little as they are, something has to be so worth it,” said Mrs. Ben Affleck, mother of Violet, 8, Seraphina, 5, and 2-year-old Sam.

“For me, because every movie is a chance,” Garner, 41, continued during a one-on-one interview at the Four Seasons, “you try to set yourself up to get as lucky as you can, as many times as you can.

“The more successful you are, the more clout you have to be in something where the odds of failing are reduced.

“I don’t know where I fall in that spectrum, because every time that something works I’m incredibly grateful and feel really lucky. So I must not be too up in there,” she laughed. “But that’s OK because for me it’s all about balance.”

“Draft Day” looks at judgment day for college grads hoping to be selected for the National Football League as seen through the eyes of fictional Cleveland Browns general manager Sonny Weaver (Costner).

His already tense time is complicated by revelations about his affair with Ali (Garner), the team’s capologist — the expert who knows how much to spend on each player and what can be offered.

Garner used actual Browns capologist Megan Rogers as her model. “I just basically stole everything from her.”

“Draft Day,” she pointed out, “has to survive without people knowing anything about the sport. That’s where I think this movie is strongest.

“If you love football, yes, you will be totally satisfied by the references, the inside knowledge you have. But if you don’t understand it even a little bit you should also be wholly satisfied because this movie is ultimately about relationships.

“There’s actually very little football in the movie.”

“Draft Day” opens tomorrow.

Apr 08, 2014 · · Articles · Comments Off on Jennifer Garner, Kevin Costner Send Love to Cleveland at ‘Draft Day’ Premiere

Hollywood showed lots of affection for Cleveland at Monday night’s premiere of Lionsgate’s Cleveland-set “Draft Day” at the Regency Village.

“I loved being in Cleveland,” Jennifer Garner asserted at the post-screening bash, set up on a mock football field with bleachers, goalposts and Cleveland Browns highlights. “People are so real and s0 nice.”

“We were there during this time of year, so it wasn’t the tough winter weather and I love towns like Cleveland with stadiums in town, so you can sneak out during work to go see a game,” Kevin Costner mused.

Costner allowed that in real life, he’s as well-schooled in pro football as his “Draft Day” character, the general manager of the Cleveland Browns. “Yes, I do know that much about football,” he added.

Screenwriter Rajiv Joseph admitted that he had not planned to set the film in Cleveland.

“I’m a huge Browns fan and I couldn’t write dispassionately about the team, so we set the film in Buffalo,” he explained. “Then the producers set it in Cleveland anyhow because of incentives.”

Joseph’s co-writer Scott Rothman admitted that he was amazed at the scale of the film, complete with the NFL’s blessing and access to archival footage. “We never really expected the film to get made; when we started working, we thought this was going to be very small without the NFL getting involved,” he added.

Director Ivan Reitman said that he made the film for those who know little about football.

“Our idea all along was to make a film for people who aren’t football fans, so it’s gratifying to hear people say that they don’t know anything about football but they really like the film,” Reitman noted. “At least, that’s what they’re telling me tonight.”

“Draft Day” hits theaters Friday.
